Since the 1960's, husband and wife team Robert Leekya and Bernice Leekya have been making beautiful nugget watches, bolos, belt buckles, belts, and bracelets together.
Robert, born in 1934, was taught the art of silversmithing by his father, the esteemed Leekya Deyuse (1889-1966) during the 1940's. Robert started working on his signature nugget style in 1953 and has won many awards for his cluster work using high quality nugget stones.
Bernice Leekya, daughter of Zuni artists Doris Ondelacy and Wayne Ondelacy was taught inlay and cluster work. Her favorite designs are of Knifewing and Rainbow Man.
For a time, Robert and Bernice created inlay and gold set pieces, but when gold prices soared they returned to their preferred work - nugget-style using high quality Kingman stones and heavy sterling silver. Their hallmark is RLB.
Sleeping Beauty Turquoise: This stone is truly one of our (and our artists) favorites. It was found in Globe, Arizona, specifically at the Sleeping Beauty Mine, and is revered for sometimes lacking something that makes most other types stand out: it’s webbing or veining. The highest-quality pieces are as pure as a cloudless New Mexico Sky, and at its finest, Sleeping Beauty will make you forget how turquoise got its reputation as sort of a patchwork stone of different colors. The mine is no longer in operation and Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is more in demand than ever due to its scarcity and beautiful color. |
How To Measure Your Bracelet Size
Measure your own wrist with a flexible tape measure around the portion of your wrist where you would like to wear the bracelet. The bracelet circumference will need to be that size, or larger.
How To Read Cuff Bracelet Measurements:
For example, if the bracelet circumference is 5 1/2" and the gap is 1 1/4", the total circumference is 6 3/4". To wear this bracelet, your wrist should be around this size (total circumference).
